[TG7001] - Handling of CD-ROMs holding important data

CD-ROMs (CD-Recordables) in general:

It is a well known fact that the non-printed side of a CD-ROM should be handled carefully to avoid data read errors due to scratches and dirt. However, it is often underestimated that the printed side of the CD-ROM is sensible to mechanical stress as well. This is because the active optical layer (where the data is burned in) is firstly very thin and secondly coated by a protective layer which thickness is only appr. 10 micrometers. Since this side of the disc cannot be cleaned and scratches cannot be removed by special polishing liquids, defects will result in (partial) data loss more likely.

If you prefer display of four digits for year fields rather than two (e. g. '2000' instead of '00') you can select this via control panel:  
Start
 -> Settings
  -> Control panel
   -> Regional settings
    -> Date
 
There, select the appropriate setting. A good recommendation is the format YYYY-MM-DD since this ensures easy-to-read directory listings.

[TF1001] - No automatic program start in Microsoft® Windows® 98

Microsoft® Windows® 98:

The automatic startup of a program when booting up the operating system can (temporarily) be disabled by means of the system configuration program:
 
Start
 -> Programs
  -> Accessories
   -> System programs
    -> System information
 
Then select:
 
Extras
 -> System configuration program
 
There you can disable the startup in different categories.
