Here you will find questions and answers about the internet and its
services (browsers, E-Mail etc.):
[FE9012]
- My web browser seems to display some "obsolete" pages , other collegues
obvisiously get newer information for the same web address on their PC.
What could cause this?
- Netscape Navigator® 3.x, 4.x:
-
To minimize response time, the browser copies web pages already visited into
a temporary memory area on the harddisk (and/or in memory) of your PC,
called the "cache".
For further access of these pages the request is no longer sent to the web
server on the internet, but the local copy in the cache is displayed. If in
the meantime the original page has been updated on the web server, there
is a chance that these changes are not known to the browser,
hence not displayed. To enforce a refresh of the page from the web server
simply hold down the [Shift]-key when clicking on the reload button in
the browser's navigation bar. Alternatively you can purge all files in the
cache area by selecting the appropriate menu item of the browser - this
triggers a new request to the web server when requesting a web page.
